World Football Phone In Dedication Song

I was listening to BBC 5 Live World Football Phone In on my podcast on my way to work this morning and this remix at the beginning of the show made me laugh.

Sean Wheelock never sounded so fast. Plus you got to love Tim Vickery's ending of the song. LOL!

Update on the Miami FC situation.

A follow up from the previous blog on Miami FC, now USL-1 has a (back up) Plan B if Miami FC decides to fold. There's a March 8 deadline on the situation with Barcelona's bid to get a MLS team.

It's starting to get very messy around here.

A.J.'s Fan Club in K.C.

Here in Austin, we all knew that Austin Aztex's A.J. Godbolt had a stint with the Kansas City Wizards during the 2007 season. Who knew that he still has a cult following in Kansas City.

So cool. You are all welcome anytime you visit Austin.

Local MLS News And Notes - February 25, 2009

It's going to be a tough task for Houston to get a result on the return leg in Mexico. Think that they can do it?

Meanwhile FC Dallas just signed their #10. Will he be the main factor in FCD's attack?

Another Local Club Joins Aztex Youth Club Affiliation Program; WPS teams' uniforms reveiled.

The Millennium Soccer Club in East Austin has agreed to join the Aztex Youth Club Affiliation Program. This is good news regarding local support for the team. Millennium Soccer Club is the largest Hispanic soccer club in Central Texas with more than 100 teams (men and women) competing in their adult league and more than 400 players registered in their youth program, Millennium Soccer Kids.

Meanwhile the WPS reveiled their teams' uniforms for the coming season.

Now I think the name FC Gold Pride is a bad name for a club, but their uniforms......

Does anyone think that Sepp Blatter had a deal with that skirt or "wrap" design?

Great! First Atlanta & now Miami??????

Just when we are looking forward towards the USL-1 season, this news bit coming from Miami came in.

Miami FC Deathwatch has Officially Begin

Already we had the Cleveland City Stars move up from the USL-2 to the USL-1 replacing the Atlanta Silverbacks who suspended operations (or folded if you like). And now Miami might be gone before the season begins. And you wonder to yourself why the USL-1 schedule was so late to release to the public.

I have two thoughts on this:

1) With it's past histories in the NASL & MLS, Miami has poor stability to hold on and run a soccer team in American (pointy) football-mad South Florida area. You would hope that would get things going in a grass roots effort in the local community to support their local soccer team.

2) Ironically both Atlanta & Miami were candidates for potential MLS expansion teams and naturally Atlanta pulled out of the running and now Barcelona might pull out of putting a Miami team as well due to the economic situation. This "putting the cart before the horse" mentality from the owners on getting a future MLS team and not concentrating on your current USL-1 teams does not help at all and the local soccer fans in these communities will suffer at the end. This does not bold well of getting pro soccer in the Southeastern parts of this country.

Sadly, the Atlanta & Miami owners seeing Seattle Sounders's transitions from USL to MLS has not only hurt USL-1 but hurts the so-called-pyramid level of U.S. Soccer. Can somebody please call the Tampa Bay Rowdies to start the season now instead of next year?

Stoke settles for a point at home against Pompey; Aztex faces Revs in first preseason match.

I apologize for not blogging for the past week due to busy workload at my job. But over the weekend I was watching Stoke City playing Portsmouth at Cuatros with my fellow Chantico's Army members and just when you think the Potters were about to stanch a crucial 3 points, they find new ways to concede a goal.......IN STOPPAGE TIME! ARRRRRGH! More details on the game here.

Meanwhile the Aztex are about days away from playing their first preseason match against the New England Revolution. The game starts at 7:30 pm (CST) at Nelson Field in Austin, Texas. Here are more details on the scouting report on the Revs. Chantico's Army members will be at La Palapa Restaurant near the stadium at 5:00 pm (CST). So come by over for a pregame pint and march down with us to nelson Field for what will turn out to be a great night for soccer.

Too scared to play us?

After reading this blog from Los Toros website:

Are the Hoops ducking the Aztex?

Do you think that they are scared of playing a new USL-1 team? Sure that Columbus, New England and Houston are coming over for those preseason games, but you would think that FCD would be able to work their PR over winning new fans & respect in the Capitol City. Nope! They would rather play against a college team and go overseas to Brazil instead.

Hmmmmm.....Memphis or Austin? Nice.

Anyway it would have been nice to see FCD vs Austin. But I'll take Austin beating Houston instead. Hehe!

Aztex and Lonestar Soccer Club Announce Development Academy Partnership

The Austin Aztex FC announced that Lonestar Soccer Club has agreed to join the Aztex Youth Club Affiliation Program. Upcoming Aztex Season

I'm looking forward towards the upcoming Austin Aztex season. Yesterday they sign AJ Godbolt and Sullivan Silva to the team. And this morning on 1300 The Zone Phil Rawlin & Adrian Heath were discussing the upcoming tryout this Saturday & Sunday. I'm planning on being at the second session of the tryout at St. Edward's and then attending Chantico's Army Organizational Meeting at Opal Devine's.
