A Farewell To Eddie Johnson And Other Aztex News & Notes

NEWS:

Austin Aztex: League’s Leading Goal Scorer Eddie Johnson Transferred to Portland

The Aztexan: Timbers Sign Eddie Johnson to 2011 MLS Team

NewsOK.com: Timbers sign 3 of their own for 1st MLS season

NOTES:

One thing that took me by surprised is that the Timbers signed Eddie Johnson during the season and then loaned him back to Austin for the rest of the season. You wondered why the Montreal Impact announcers mentioned Eddie's signing during the Impact-Aztex playoff broadcast and Miguel Gallardo mentioning about Johnson's departure on last week's Futbol En Vivo. To me, its all about both the Portland Timbers and the Vancouver Whitecaps using all of their means (and loopholes) to sign players before entering MLS and their strict rules and regulations of getting players. I would not be surprise if the Montreal Impact will do the same for next season in preparation for 2012.

For those who want to reminisce about Eddie Johnson, you can listen to him along with Djorn Buchholz on Episode 5 of In The Mixer podcast. Also you can listen to last week's Episode 8 of In The Mixer podcast recapping the Austin Aztex's 2010 season and what to look forward towards next season. It's best to listen to Episode 5 while drinking an Aztex Amber Ale (whom his picture is on the bottle) in his honor. We wish him to best of luck (expect playing them in the U.S. Open Cup ;-) ) with the Portland Timbers next season in MLS.

The other news is that Austin Aztex midfielder Yordany Alvarez is on trial with the Houston Dynamo. We now know why Dominic Kinnear was scouting at House Park during the Aztex-Impact 2nd leg game. I know that it's only a trial, but the FC Dallas fan in me doesn't want him to go to Houston as he's along with Lawrence Olum a stable Aztex force pair in central midfield. Plus the fact he's looks better in Aztex red and white instead of Dynamo orange. ;-) So we will see how that one plays out and what Kinnear's judgment is on Alvarez.

Chantico's Army: 2010.09.28 :: Futbol en Vivo (English)

Special condolences for David Alvarez, who lost his father this week. David, you are in the thoughts and prayers of everyone in Chantico's Army and the Austin Aztex.

Chantico's Army:
2010.09.28 :: In the Mixer :: Episode 7 :: Chris Grayson, Paul Hart and Steve Holler (President-Elect of Ralph's Mob)

NOTE:

Watching Event: Austin Aztex at Carolina RailHawks Watching Party begins on Friday (Tomorrow) at 6 p.m. at Mister Tramps Sports Pub & Cafe. Please get here early because here are some reason why YOU SHOULD BE THERE.

1) We have the big room with the big screen to ourselves that evening.

2) Very soccer friendly atmosphere. Meaning no NFL and MLB games or fans to get distracted from watching soccer.

3) No college throwball games (since UT fans will be traveling to Big D for the weekend).

4) Contest to win some Aztex playoff tickets perhaps?

5) It's FREAKING FRIDAY !!!! What better way to get off from work than to head to Mister Tramps to get a cold beer after a hard days work.

6) You get to hang out with very cool and hip Austin Aztex fans & Chantico's Army members. If that doesn't get you excited, I don't know what does. ;-)

7) You get to see & witness the Aztex (hopefully) clinch the USSF D2 League title with a win at Carolina.

So I hope to see you this Friday evening. GO AZTEX!!!!

Floodplain Footy: AC St.Louis Falls 4-2 to Austin

NOTES:

Apologies for the highlights of the game in which

1) The 1st 2 Aztex goals were either not good in quality or cut off from the build of play.

2) The last 2 Aztex goals were never recorded which is a shame because Maxwell Griffin's goal (Aztex's 3rd) was brilliant.

3) For some reason they showed Eddie Johnson's goal 2 weeks ago against NSC Minnesota Stars instead.

At least the interview with Aztex coach Adrian Heath, Miguel Gallardo & Maxwell Griffin were good. So there's room for improvement from the broadcast staff to get it better next time.

UPDATE:

Here's the fixed highlights. Thanks to the Austin Aztex staff for correcting it.

Post-Game AC St. Louis vs Austin Aztex News & Notes - September 19, 2010

The Aztexan: Aztex Fall to St. Louis, 2-1

NASL Fanatic: Saturday Night Fever: D2 Expansion Teams AC St. Louis and NSC Minnesota Rock ‘N Roll

NOTES:

Two words: Missed Opportunities.

Considering that we conceded 2 stoppage time goals in the last 2 matches not only cost us 4 points but it cost us to move up in the USSF D2 table and allowed Rochester to remain on the top of the table. Now I understand that playing 2 matches in a three day span is very grueling physically, especially on the road. But the way the Aztex performed and approached the game against St. Louis last night was very disappointing and didn't show any good effort on the field. So the Aztex need to learn from these two road matches and get back on the winning track for this Saturday's rematch against St. Louis at House Park.

Pre-Game AC St. Louis vs Austin Aztex News & Notes - September 18, 2010

Yes, that's AC St. Louis game day promote for tonight's game against the Aztex. One wonders if Heath Pearce and his mustache are going to sue AC St. Louis for copyright infringement. Nice try AC St. Louis ;-). Anyway here are some news:

BIG NOTE:

Please join us this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Mister Tramps (8565 Research Blvd) for the Aztex Watching Party Event. The Aztex need this win to get back up top of the USSF D2 table. And that position was help by Miami FC's 2-1 win at Rochester last night. Knowing all willing that this AC St. Louis-Austin Aztex match is up against the Big Burnt Orange Gorilla that is University of Texas football game at Texas Tech, we need as much Chantico's Army members and Austin Aztex fans to be at Mister Tramps. Let's get those numbers up for tonight's match and cheer on for our Aztex.

COME ON YOU AZTEX !!!!

This Week's "In The Mixer" Podcast & Aztex Watching Party Update - August 24, 2010

Austin Aztex & Kenya National Team Midfielder Lawrence Olum is this week's guest on In The Mixer. In this podcast, he talks about his playing time in the U.S., how he feels playing for the Kenyan National Team and discussions on Aztex's season so far as they continue toward to top of the table. Plus check out Olum's latest "new project". ;-) You can listen to the episode online as well as download in at Chantico's Army website here.

Also, congratulations to former Austin Aztex defender Gareth Evans for making on the 1st team of USL-2 (Third Division). Evans anchored one of the league’s stingiest backlines for Real Maryland Monarchs.

The Austin Aztex will be traveling to the Northwest for two matches this week as they play the Portland Timbers on Thursday (August 26) at 9 p.m. and Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday (August 29) at 6 p.m. The Aztex Watching Party will now be at Mister Tramps at 8565 Research Boulevard. While we here at Chantico's Army and Aztex Nation really appreciate Cuatros for allowing us to host the event and will still remain the Austin Aztex post-match gather place, we feel that it would be better at this time of the season to move the watching party to Mister Tramps. Considering the fact that college football is about to start (which Cuatros is near the UT campus), NFL getting ready for their season and cricket's bastard step-child of a sport called baseball (no offence to local baseball fans here ;-) ) still in season, it would be better off to watch at a soccer-friendly environment like Mister Tramps instead of being crowded out by the others sports in the pub. So make sure you be there this Thursday to cheer on your Aztex at Mister Tramps. Hope to see you there.
